FULL MOUTH RECONSTRUCTION

Full mouth reconstruction refers to the process of completely restoring all of the teeth in your mouth. Full mouth reconstruction, unlike a “smile makeover,” is a necessary series of procedures, rather than an elective surgery. Full mouth reconstruction is needed when: teeth have been lost, teeth have been injured or fractured, teeth have become worn as a result of acid-erosion or jaw pain is present due to bite problems.

1PROCEDURES INVOLVED IN FULL MOUTH RECONSTRUCTION

Each patient’s full mouth reconstruction is different and, therefore, will require different procedures. Usually, full mouth reconstruction requires multiple office visits and some amount of healing time. Dr. Pezeshkian determine which procedure or combination of procedures is necessary to restore and rebuild your perfect smile.

2SOME OPTIONS INCLUDES:
  • Teeth cleaning (prophylaxis)
  • Crown lengthening to prepare tooth structure for possible crowns or bridges
  • Surgery to reposition the jaw (orthognathic surgery)
  • Contouring of the gum tissue
  • Reduction of natural tooth structure to prepare for crowns, bridges, and veneers
  • Placement of temporary restorations to get you used to your new teeth or bite adjustment
  • Placement of permanent restorations such as crowns, veneers, inlays/onlays, or bridges
  • Braces to move teeth into the ideal position for reconstruction
  • Bone or soft tissue grafting to increase the stability of your teeth or implants
3WHAT ARE INLAYS AND ONLAYS?

Inlays and onlays can be made of porcelain, gold, or composite resin. These pieces are bonded to the damaged area of the tooth. An inlay, which is similar to a filling, is used inside the cusp tips of the tooth. An onlay is a more substantial reconstruction, similar to the inlay but extending out over one or more of the cusps of the tooth.

Traditionally, gold has been the material of choice for inlays and onlays. In recent years, however, porcelain has become increasingly popular due to its strength and color, which can potentially match the natural color of your teeth.

PORCELAIN VENEERS

WHAT ARE PORCELAIN VENEERS?

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that bond directly to the front surfaces of the teeth. They are an ideal choice for improving your smile and have become increasingly popular due to their simplicity and versatility.

Placing custom veneers requires a high degree of technical skill as well as attention to cosmetic detail. We place veneers routinely, and design each case individually to match and enhance the characteristics of each patient’s smile.

1WILL THEY LOOK LIKE NORMAL TEETH?
When bonded to the teeth, the ultra-thin porcelain veneers are virtually undetectable and highly resistant to coffee, tea, or even cigarette stains. For strength and appearance, their resemblance to healthy, white tooth enamel is unsurpassed by other restorative options.
2HOW DURABLE ARE PORCELAIN VENEERS?

With proper care, porcelain veneers will brighten your smile for well over a decade.

Dr. Pezeshkian will ensure that your veneers are crafted from the highest quality porcelains and are bonded with the most advanced and proven materials available.

Refraining from using your veneers as tools to open and cut things will prolong their life, and if accidental breakage or damage occurs, it is usually possible to replace only the veneer involved.

INLAYS & ONLAYS

When more than half of the tooth’s biting surface is damaged, a dentist will often use an inlay or onlay.

1HOW ARE INLAYS AND ONLAYS APPLIED?

Inlays and onlays require two appointments to complete the procedure. During the first visit, the filling being replaced or the damaged or decaying area of the tooth is removed, and the tooth is prepared for the inlay or onlay. To ensure proper fit and bite, an impression of the tooth is made by the dentist, and sent to a lab for fabrication. The dentist will then apply a temporary sealant on the tooth and schedule the next appointment.

At the second appointment, the temporary sealant is removed. Dr. Pezeshkian will then make sure that the inlay or onlay fits correctly. If the fit is satisfactory, the inlay or onlay will be bonded to the tooth with a strong resin and polished to a smooth finish.

2CONSIDERATIONS FOR INLAYS AND ONLAYS
Traditional fillings can reduce the strength of a natural tooth by up to 50 percent. As an alternative, inlays and onlays, which are bonded directly onto the tooth using special high-strength resins, can actually increase the strength of a tooth by up to 75 percent. As a result, they can last from 10 to 30 years. In some cases, where the damage to the tooth is not extensive enough to merit an entire crown, onlays can provide a very good alternative.

DENTAL BONDING

Bonding is an alternative to veneers and can be used as a restorative procedure for teeth that are chipped, cracked, discolored or misarranged.

1HOW DOES IT WORK?
The tooth is prepared for the procedure by lightly etching the surface and applying a bonding liquid. Once the liquid sets, a plastic resin is applied and sculpted into the desired shape by the dentist. Once set, the resin is trimmed, smoothed and polished to a natural appearance.
2CONSIDERATIONS
The bonding procedure can often be completed in a single office visit, and can improve the appearance of a tooth significantly. However, since the plastic resin used is not as strong as your natural tooth enamel, it is more likely to stain, chip or break than natural teeth. Bonding typically lasts three to five years before need of repair.

ZOOM WHITENING

If you prefer teeth that are immediately whiter right now or you would rather whiten your teeth over a few nights while you sleep, Dr. Pezeshkian has your answer with Zoom! The Zoom! In-Office Whitening System uses proprietary technology to whiten your teeth an average of eight shades* in a little over an hour while you relax at your dentist’s office. It’s ideal for anyone who wants immediate results. The Zoom! Take-Home Whitening System uses a revolutionary patent-pending gel to whiten your teeth an average of six shades in three nights*. And you may go even lighter with additional applications. Start on Friday and by Monday you’ll have a whole new smile.

Strips or paint-on gels are a waste of time. Get your teeth whiter in a fraction of the time with Zoom.

1WHAT IS ZOOM! TOOTH WHITENING?
Zoom! is a bleaching process that lightens discoloration of enamel and dentin.
2WHAT CAN CAUSE TOOTH DISCOLORATION?
There are many causes. The most common include aging and consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea or tobacco. During tooth formation consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discoloration.
3WHO MAY BENEFIT FROM TOOTH WHITENING?
Just about anyone can benefit from tooth whitening. However, treatment may not be as effective for some as it is for others. With an oral exam, Dr. Pezeshkian can determine if you are a candidate for this procedure, including a shade assessment.
4IS TOOTH WHITENING BECOMING MORE POPULAR?
Absolutely! A bright, beautiful smile can make a big difference. The Zoom! Whitening System makes it easier and faster than ever before.
5IS TOOTH WHITENING SAFE?
Yes, research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact, many dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. As with any tooth whitening product, Zoom! is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.
6DO THE RESULTS LAST A LONG TIME?
By following some simple post whitening care instructions, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. We recommend flossing, brushing twice daily with Zoom! Whitening Toothpaste, and touch-ups with Zoom! take-home gel. These are professional formula products designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest. They are available through our office.
7IS THERE ANY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OVER-THE-COUNTER TOOTH WHITENERS AND ZOOM!
Yes! Consulting Dr. Pezeshkian is always the first step to whitening your teeth safely. Over-the-counter tooth whitening strips, brush-on gels and toothpastes take weeks or months to whiten your teeth just a few shades. Zoom is clinically proven to whiten your teeth eight shades* in one hour or six shades* in just one weekend.
8HOW DOES THE ZOOM! IN-OFFICE SYSTEM WORK?
The Zoom! light-activated whitening gel’s active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. As Hydrogen Peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching any colored substance while keeping the structure of the tooth unchanged. The Zoom! light aids in activating the Hydrogen Peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth.
9ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Some people experience temporary increased tooth sensitivity to cold during treatment. These symptoms disappear within 1-3 days after interruption or completion of the treatment.
10HOW LONG IS THE PROCEDURE?
The entire procedure takes just over one hour. The procedure begins with a preparation period followed by one hour of bleaching.
11HOW LONG DOES ZOOM! TAKE-HOME WHITENING TAKE?
The Zoom! take-home gel is designed to be worn between four and eight hours per application. Dr. Pezeshkian will advise you on how long you should wear each application. A recent study showed that you can achieve an average improvement of six shades* after just three nights of use. Dr. Pezeshkian will help you determine how many applications are right for you.
12HOW IS THE ZOOM! TAKE-HOME SYSTEM DIFFERENT FROM THE ZOOM! IN-OFFICE SYSTEM?
The main difference between the two systems is that you use the Zoom! Take-Home System in the convenience of your own home over a few nights. The Zoom! In-Office System is performed entirely in the office.

CLEAR BRACES

For information on Invisalign, please visit www.invisalign.com

  • Invisalign uses a series of clear removable aligners to straighten your teeth without metal wires or brackets.
  • The aligners are made through a combination of Dr. Pezeshkian’s expertise and 3-D computer imaging technology.
  • You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.
  • As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Pezeshkian has prescribed.
  • You’ll visit Dr. Pezeshkian about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.
  • Total treatment time averages 9 – 15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.

Our Testimonials

  • This is my second visit. My first official visit fitting for my new smile. My first visit I had my consultation and a wonderful visit with the doctor. Dr. Pezeshkian explained everything to me about my procedure and how Invisalign will work for me. It was my best choice. I am in my 40's and did not want traditional braces. The office staff is welcoming and incredibly knowledgeable. The atmosphere is soothing and I felt at ease. I have had two friends come to the doctors office with great success. All with different dental procedures. Dr Pezeshkian is far more than a dentist, he is an artist with his skills. The Dr is gentle and I did not have any sensitivity. My care and comfort was the offices main concern. I would recommend Advanced Dentistry for my whole family.

  • Going to the dentist is definitely not something I look forward to, but Dr. Pezeshkian is so amazing and comforting, I never have a problem! The staff is amazing, in both locations..Arcadia and Glendale. I had my wisdom teeth pulled out this morning and everyone knows the fear behind that. Dr. Pezeshkian took two of my top wisdom teeth out and it took 15 seconds each with no pain or discomfort. Dr. Pezeshkian makes your dentist visit fun and entertaining with his upbeat personality and optimistic view on everything. By far my favorite dentist!! Thank you so much Dr. Pezeshkian!

  • Just like any other kid, I've always hated the dentist. I've probably switched dentists like 4 times...never felt comfortable to get up and get my teeth drilled. Who would ever look forward to that? After I started coming by Dr. Pezeshkian, I've never been a nervous wreck before going into his office.. It's always a fun experience for me. The staff makes you feel very comfortable and the receptionist is also super nice. Appointments are ALWAYS on time and the office is always clean and organized. I'm very happy to have switched to Dr. Pezeshkian. I haven't had a problem with going to the dentist ever since!! Thank you Dr., you're the best at what you do !!!

  • I feel blessed to have found Dr. Pezeshkian's practice. Every single visit to his office has been accompanied by calmness, optimism, and contentment. That is partly because every single member at Advanced Dentistry is gregarious, treating patients like family. Most importantly, they always provide me with thorough examinations and advanced treatments. I always walk out of the clinic fully informed of my dental health. Thank you for all your help.

  • I've been seeing Dr. Pezeshkian since I moved to LA over 4 yrs ago. I originally went specifically to transfer my Invisalign case because I saw they were having a Groupon special. And although the special was explicitly for new cases, they were so kind and flexible enough to work out a deal for my unique situation and I've never looked back. Since then he and his staff have gracefully ushered me through two gum surgeries, whitening treatments, night guards, retainers, countless cleanings, fillings and, most recently, Botox to treat my TMJ symptoms. Needless to say, I've spent a LOT of time there and my smile can fully attest to their knowledge, talent, professionalism, and bedside manner. The office has a very private family practice kind of vibe, where you get friendly, personal attention and know that they really care. Dr. Pezeshkian takes the time to explain his proposed treatment without pushing the up-sell (though his on-point bow tie game doesn't hurt). All-in-all, I'd like to say my smile speaks for itself (but since it's the internet you'll just have to take my word for it)

  • It was my first time visiting this office a couple days ago, but from the moment I walked through the door, I was greeted so kindly and sincerely that I felt as if I had been a patient with them for years and years. Admittedly, I hadn't been to a dentist's office for quite a while before this visit, but instead of giving me the lecture that I expected (and rightly deserved), Dr. Pezeshkian chose to focus on the positives and gave me a thorough, straightforward exam while also making me laugh. I could tell that he knew his stuff, but his warm, cheerful demeanor was definitely a plus! Thank you to all the staff for such a pleasant visit and for making me feel at home. I'll definitely be back for any future dental needs. :)
