Dental Implants

WHY AN IMPLANT?

A missing natural tooth may be one of the biggest reasons someone doesn’t feel comfortable about their smile. With dental implants, Dr. Pezeshkian and the Advanced Dentistry team can help you enjoy the beauty and functionality of healthy teeth.

Made of biocompatible metal so your body does not reject the material, dental implants serve as a tooth root replacement for a missing natural tooth. There are several different types of dental implants, and Dr. Pezeshkian and his team the type best suited for you based on your jawbone, gum tissue and other specific needs.

  • Root-form implants: Best for patients with sound, healthy jaw
  • Subperiosteal, blade or cylinder implant: Best for patients with a thin or deteriorating jaw

Dental implants are typically done in three stages and take between five months and two years to complete. Advanced Dentistry also provides invisible braces and a wide range of cosmetic dentistry services. WHAT IS A DENTAL IMPLANT?

A dental implant (artificial tooth root) is a custom-made piece of biocompatible metal (so your body does not reject this material) serves as the replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth. It is developed from surgical-grade titanium alloy to exacting specifications. Dr. Pezeshkian places the implant into either the upper or lower jawbone. After a period of time, the implant integrates with the bone and becomes a secure anchor for a replacement tooth, a fixed bridge, a removable partial, or a complete denture.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR A DENTAL IMPLANT?

If you are missing one or more teeth, then you may be a candidate for a dental implant. Dr. Pezeshkian will be able to discuss your individual clinical situation. Dental implants will allow you to smile, speak, and eat with confidence and comfort.

With implant dentistry, you can once again enjoy the beauty and functionality of healthy teeth. At Glendale Arcadia Advanced Dentistry, Dr. Pezeshkian and his skillful, professionally-trained team has a wealth of experience crafting exceptional smiles. Dr. Pezeshkian uses the latest dental implants and oral surgery techniques at the Glendale and Arcadia offices. Any procedure is possible, from single tooth to a complete replacement of all your teeth.

PROCEDURE

Tooth replacement with dental implants usually takes place in three stages. During your first appointment, Dr. Pezeshkian surgically inserts the titanium implant into the missing tooth root. The procedure is performed under a local anesthetic, so you will not feel any discomfort during treatment. Once the implant is securely attached, the dentist closes the gum tissue with stitches. For the next several months, the implant will gradually fuse with the surrounding bone in a process known as osseointegration.

The second stage of oral surgery takes place after the dental implant has sufficiently bonded to the jaw. During this appointment, Dr. Pezeshkian fastens a small connector, also called a post, to the implant. Once the procedure is complete, the gum tissue around the implant and post is allowed to heal.

During the third and final stage, Dr.Pezeshkian attaches the replacement tooth to the dental implant post. The custom-made tooth is carefully shaped and adjusted to complement your bite. Depending on the number and type of implants used, the entire process should take between five months and two years to complete.

ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS?

There are several different types of dental implants available to our patients. At our Glendale and Arcadia, California locations, Dr. Pezeshkian will determine which type of implant to use based on the condition of the jawbone, gum tissue, and the specific health needs of the patient. Root-form implants are the most common type of implant, and are best for patients with a sound, healthy jawbone. If a patient’s jaw is deteriorating or is especially thin, a subperiosteal implant, blade implant, or cylinder implant might be used instead. These implants are designed to reinforce the jaw and provide additional support for replacement teeth.
